SVUC highly recommends the “Tunnel Ride” - an adventurous unicycle ride down the Iron Horse Trail and through the 2.5-mile-long Snoqualmie Tunnel. It begins in the same location as the marathon, though you will be unable to ride the shuttle due to space constraints. Instead, drive to the Iron Horse Trailhead. Parking will cost $10/vehicle for the day (carpool!) - but, there is a self-service kiosk at the parking lot to facilitate payment.
Riders are encouraged to depart along with the marathoners at 8:30 am, however the trail is open all day long. If riding with the marathoners, you can follow along and help guide them through the tunnel. Race officials will be available to offer directions, some glow-wear lighting, support and helpful hints!
The hard-packed gravel trail is adjacent to the lot and the tunnel entrance is only about a 1/2 mile away. Once there, you might want to put on a light jacket because it can be cold! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND A HEADLAMP OR GOOD FLASHLIGHT! You’ll need to turn around and come back the way you came, but you’ll be tunnel veterans by then. :)
